AbaNtu

5 May – 5 July 2024

AbaNtu is not merely a collection of photographs; it is a testament to the power of photography as a tool for healing and connection. Arthur Dlamini’s unique ability to capture the smiles, unique features, and demeanors of his subjects transcends mere imagery, delving into the depths of human experience. From iconic jazz musicians to everyday citizens, each portrait tells a story—a story of resilience, hope, and the beauty of individuality.

The AbaNtu Exhibition showcases some of the finest in Arthur’s portraiture catalogue. Each portrait shatters any barriers, opening a portal into the heart of the subject, and ushering the viewer to their peculiar stories. These are authentic stories about ukuphila nokuphilisa, ukuthanda, ukuthandaza nokuthemba, ukufunda, ukufuna nokuthola ukuthula – with the eyes of the subject being the amplified narrator. Observe seekers and seers, lovers, leaders and learners; humans being – ABANTU.

The AD Gallery hosted an intimate showcase of the AbaNtu Exhibition, for Private Clients, art collectors and the public, with the aim of letting the audience into Arthur’s process of creating and the deep meaning behind every portrait snd his work in it’s entirety.

In collaboration with The Social Table, as well as Tubatsi Moloi, attendees were taken on an immersive food and music experience, sponsored by The Social Table & Krone, we are grateful to all attendees who made the night a magical success.

Path Nomad

Salon Winter Show

13 June-21 July 2024

PATH NOMAD runs Salon exhibitions in between planned programming where clients can on a daily basis enjoy a beautifully curated gallery showcasing of art, design & photography from a variety of emerging & established artists in the region.

Arthur Dlamini has had the honour of being invited to exhibit THREE profound pieces of work in the Winter Salon Exhibition at 44 Stanley in Johannesburg.

Path Nomad presents our 1st seasonal SALON exhibition, a winter show. As we borrow from the origins of the French Salon exhibition, a gathering place where artist’s ideas are made public. We have curated 9 amazing artists for this 1st edition show. Our gallery will serve as a marvelous reception room for the gathering of artists, collectors and the community at large to interact with the artist’s stories. “

Arthur Dlamini personally curated three works for this exhibition, with the aim of telling the story of his creative process, making his ideas public – in which spirituality places a major role. Meditation, prayer & learning, all being Arthur’s key tools used in his craft, give life to the pieces in this exhibition and Arthur’s unique way of capturing emotion.

In meditation, we summon stillness and inhale the heavy sighs, reflecting before reacting. We sit with all that we know and are, reaching within to find our intransigent parts, to question why they remain unhealed. We step out of the secrarium, sisabela ubizo lokwabelana ngolwazi nokukhanya. The sacred space of self-reflection, where shadows surrender to the light of awareness is where we hear the bidding, “Fundisanani bantu”. We embrace the whispers of wisdom and the gentle touch of our tender truths, conjuring the courage to to teach and touch the hearts of others. Like an overflowing well, we are compelled to share from the abundant excess of our rebirth, to impart the wisdom we have gleaned; sonke sibiziwe ukuzohlamba indlela.

On days when we sit in terror-bidding darkness, we are moved to remember the light that should be ever-burning. Sithola ukukhanyiseleka nokukhululeka uma sikhuleka. Even on the darkest days, when shadows shroud our souls, prayer ignites the candle of hope. Like a gentle flame, it flickers to life, casting a warm glow on the path ahead. As we breathe our deepest longings into the vast silence, the light of prayer banishes the darkness, revealing the beauty of the present moment. Like a beacon in the night, it guides us through the tempests of our lives, reminding us ukukhanya kusazi ngamagama. Our spirits aglow with the radiance of faith, we rest in knowing that the light will forever be the guiding force on our journey through the darkness into the radiant light of the divine. SingabokuKhanya, we belong to the Light

Title : FUNDANI BANTU

Size : 700mm x 1000mm

Medium : Giclee Print On Matt-coated Certified Archival Paper

Edition : 1/8

Year : 2023

Learning is like seeking light in deep darkness; ukufunda kufana nokufuna ukukhanya ebumnyameni obujulile – each lesson a gleam of hope, an ushering in of light and enlightenment, a gentle beckoning towards ourselves and all that lies beyond the darkness. In silent solitude, we question the truthfulness of truth. As the lessons clench their clasps on us with workings from the inside out, we turn the books upside-down; seeking.

With unanswered questions and prayers, we continue grasping blindly – learning and leaning towards the unknown until knowledge prevails and its glory reflects upon our countenances as those who have communed with God, tearing the veil of darkness to reveal light for ourselves and those we stumble upon as we search on.

Mhlawumbe sifunda ukufuna izinkondlo zokondla imiphefumulo; perhaps the imploration is not only to be enlightened, but to be light.
